Please know this before you book: it is a very long day. Your driver picks you up at about 5:30 AM, and you are back at about 10:00–10:30 PM. That is about 16.5–17 hours in total, and about 10 of those hours are on the road.

Itinerary for Your One Day Jaipur Tour from Delhi by Car
We see Amber Fort first. It stands on the northern edge of Jaipur, so we reach it before the midday heat and the largest crowds. The city sights come next, and we finish with photo stops, because the monuments close in the late afternoon.
5:30 AM — Pickup in Delhi NCR
Your driver meets you at your hotel or chosen place. The route is NH48 (the main national highway to Jaipur) or the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway (a newer, faster highway). Your driver picks the faster road on the day.
About 7:30 AM — Breakfast and Restroom Stop
About two hours into the drive, we stop at a highway restaurant with restrooms. Breakfast is your choice, and you pay for it there. This stop takes about 30 minutes.
About 10:30 AM — Amber Fort
Amber Fort (also written Amer Fort) is a hilltop palace-fort of sandstone and marble, begun in the late 1500s. Inside, you walk through royal courtyards, the Hall of Public Audience, and the Sheesh Mahal, a hall covered in tiny mirrors. You spend about 2 hours here. To reach the gate, you can walk up the stone path or take a jeep ride, paid on the spot.
About 12:45 PM — Jal Mahal (Photo Stop)
Jal Mahal, the “Water Palace,” sits in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, on the road back into the city. Visitors cannot go inside, so we stop on the lakeside road for photos. This takes about 15 minutes.
About 1:15 PM — Lunch
With the lunch package, you eat at a 3-star hotel from its set menu. Otherwise, you choose where to eat, and your driver can suggest a few places. Lunch takes about 45 minutes.
About 2:15 PM — City Palace
City Palace stands in the heart of the old walled city, called the Pink City for its pink-painted buildings. Jaipur’s royal family still lives in one part, and the rest is a museum of royal clothes, weapons, and art. You spend about 1 hour here.
About 3:15 PM — Jantar Mantar
Jantar Mantar is right next to City Palace. It is an open-air observatory from the 1700s, with giant stone instruments that track the sun and stars. Its huge sundial can tell the local time to within a few seconds. You spend about 45 minutes here.
About 4:00 PM — Hawa Mahal (Photo Stop from Outside)
Hawa Mahal is a tall pink front wall with hundreds of small windows. Royal women once watched street festivals from behind them without being seen. We stop across the road to see it from outside, for about 20 minutes.
About 4:30 PM — Albert Hall Museum (Photo Stop from Outside)
Albert Hall Museum is Rajasthan’s oldest museum, in a grand building that mixes Indian and European styles. We stop outside for photos for about 15 minutes, as there is no time to go in before the drive back. From November to February, the soft late-afternoon light here is good for pictures.
About 5:00 PM — Drive Back to Delhi
The drive back takes about 5 hours, with a restroom stop on the way. You can buy a snack or dinner there if you are hungry.
About 10:00–10:30 PM — Drop-off in Delhi NCR
Your driver drops you at your hotel, home, the railway station, or the airport.
Times can change with traffic, weather, and lines at the gate.
Important to Know Before You Go
These points can save you a wasted trip or an uncomfortable day. Please read them before you book.
- No weekly closed day: Amber Fort, City Palace, and Jantar Mantar open every day. They close in the late afternoon, so the day starts early. Very rarely, a festival or official visit closes a site for a few hours.
- Passport: Carry your passport. Ticket counters can ask to see it for the foreign-visitor ticket.
- Dress and shoes: Light clothes that cover shoulders and knees are respectful and keep off the sun. Wear comfortable shoes, because Amber Fort has slopes, steps, and uneven stone floors. Remove your shoes if you enter the small temple inside the fort.
- Items to leave in the car: Keep to a small day bag. Drones are not allowed at the monuments, so leave drones and tripods in the car.
- Heat and fog: From April to June, Jaipur can go above 40°C (104°F). In December and January, morning fog around Delhi can slow the drive.
Customize Your Day
This is a private tour, so you can shape the day around what matters to you. Here are a few changes you can ask for when you book.
- Add a guide: On a car-only booking, you can add an English-speaking guide in Jaipur. Ask us on WhatsApp for the guide price.
- Add Galtaji, if time allows: Galtaji, often called the Monkey Temple, is a group of old temples and water tanks in a rocky valley just outside Jaipur. It needs extra time, so you would skip a photo stop or get back to Delhi later.
- Choose a later pickup: A later start means more sleep but less time in Jaipur, because the monuments close in the late afternoon.
- Want a shorter day? Our Delhi Sightseeing Tour keeps you in the city for about 8–10 hours, with no long highway drive.
- Rather see the Taj Mahal? Our Same Day Agra Tour from Delhi is a similar long day by private car. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays.

Who This Tour Is For
This trip packs a lot of Jaipur sightseeing from Delhi into one day. It suits some travelers well and others less so, so here is an honest guide.
- Short-stay visitors: If you have one free day in Delhi and want to see Jaipur, this is the simplest way, with no hotel night to book.
- Couples and solo travelers: You have a private car with no other passengers. Solo travelers, including solo women, can save the driver’s number and share it with family for extra peace of mind.
- Families with older children: Teens usually enjoy the forts and the observatory. For small children, about 10 hours in a car is a lot, and a shorter tour may suit you better.
- Older travelers: The jeep ride makes Amber Fort easier, but the day is still long. If long car rides tire you, a shorter tour may be kinder.
- Travelers with more time: If you have two or more days, stay a night in Jaipur instead. You will see more and spend less time on the road.

Best Time for a Jaipur Day Trip from Delhi
Jaipur is in Rajasthan, a hot and dry state, so the weather shapes this day more than anything else. The cooler months make walking around the forts much easier.
- October to March (best): Days are mostly about 22–33°C (72–91°F), which is comfortable for walking. December and January mornings can drop to about 8°C (46°F), so bring a warm layer for the early drive.
- December and January (fog): Thick morning fog around Delhi can slow the first hours of the drive. Your driver slows down for safety, so you may reach Amber Fort a little later.
- April to June (very hot): Jaipur often goes above 40°C (104°F). If these are your only dates, carry a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water, and expect a tiring day.
- July to September (monsoon): The monsoon is India’s rainy season. It is warm and humid, and heavy showers on some days can slow traffic. The hills around Amber Fort turn green.
- Best time of day: Reaching Amber Fort at about 10:30 AM avoids the hottest hours in its open courtyards. The trade-off is an early start at about 5:30 AM.
How Long Is the Drive from Delhi to Jaipur?
The drive from Delhi to Jaipur takes about 4.5–5 hours each way by car. It covers about 270–280 km (168–174 miles), and traffic in Delhi NCR and Jaipur decides most of the difference.
| Option | Time each way | Comfort | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private car | About 4.5 – 5 hours | Door to door, with stops when you need them | Same-day round trips, families, and small groups |
| Train | About 3.5 – 4.5 hours, plus time to and from stations | Comfortable seats, fixed timetable | Travelers staying a night in Jaipur |
| Bus | About 5.5 – 6 hours | From basic buses to air-conditioned coaches | Budget travelers with time to spare |
Trains are a good, comfortable choice, especially if you stay a night in Jaipur. For a same-day round trip, a car is simpler: you start at your hotel, you need no taxi in Jaipur, and you leave when your last stop ends, not when a train departs.
Local Tips for a Comfortable Jaipur Day
Small things make a long day much easier. Here is what we suggest for this route.
- Rest on the way out: You have over four hours before Amber Fort. A neck pillow and a light shawl help, since the car’s AC can feel cool at dawn.
- Message your driver at each stop: Parking near City Palace and Hawa Mahal is tight, so your car may wait a short walk away. Save the driver’s number and send a WhatsApp message when you are ready.
- Say a polite “no” to touts: Touts are people who walk up to visitors to sell guides, photos, or shop visits. At Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal, a smile and “No, thank you” is enough.
- Shop only if you want to: We never take you to a shop unless you ask. If you want textiles, gems, or crafts, tell us, and you choose where to go.
- Carry small notes: ₹10, ₹20, and ₹50 notes make it easy to buy water and snacks, or pay for a restroom on the highway.
- Drink water often: Jaipur air is dry, even in winter. Sip water through the day, and buy sealed bottles only.
- Get a guide for Jantar Mantar: On a car-only booking, this is the stop where a guide helps most. Without one, the giant instruments look like modern sculptures; with one, you see how they tell time.
Why Book with Taj Mahal Day Trip
We keep things simple and honest, so you can plan your day without worry. Here is what you can count on.
- Private car only: Your group travels alone, with no shared seats and no extra pickups.
- Clear car prices: Fuel, tolls, state taxes, and parking are in the price, so nothing is added to the car fare later.
- No advance payment: You pay on the day, by cash, card, or UPI.
- Cancel at any time: You pay nothing in advance, so changing plans costs you nothing.
- No forced shopping: We never take you to a shop unless you ask, and you choose where to buy.
- English-speaking guide: Included in every package, and available on car-only bookings for an extra charge.
