What Your Delhi Sightseeing Tour by Car Covers

Our Delhi sightseeing tour by car shows you both sides of the city in one day. In Old Delhi, you see Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk (Old Delhi’s busy market street). In New Delhi, you see India Gate, Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial), Humayun’s Tomb, Lotus Temple, and Qutub Minar.

The day is about 9–10 hours, from an 8:30 AM pickup to about 6:00–6:30 PM drop-off. There is no long highway drive. Most drives between stops take 10–30 minutes, so you spend more time seeing places than sitting in traffic.

Your private car picks you up anywhere in Delhi NCR (the Delhi region, including Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad). The day suits first-time visitors with one free day, and travelers with a late-night flight home.

  • Car with an English-speaking guide: Good if you want the stories behind each place: who built it, when, and why. The guide costs extra, so ask us on WhatsApp for the guide price.

The price can change if you need a bigger car, add stops, or want a longer day.

No advance payment, and you can cancel at any time. You pay on the day by cash, card, or UPI (India’s instant phone-to-bank payment).

  • Private AC car with driver: The car is yours for the whole day, from pickup to drop-off.
  • Fuel, toll tax, and state taxes: Toll tax is a road fee paid at booths. We pay it, not you.

One Day Delhi Tour Itinerary, Stop by Stop

The day starts in New Delhi, spends the late morning in Old Delhi, and ends in South Delhi. This order gets you to Jama Masjid before midday prayers and leaves Qutub Minar for the softer late-afternoon light.

8:30 AM — Pickup from Your Hotel

Your driver meets you at your hotel entrance with the car ready. If you stay outside central Delhi, pickup is earlier (see the pickup table above).

9:00 AM — India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, and Parliament

India Gate is a tall stone arch built to honor Indian soldiers who died in World War I. After photos, the car drives along Kartavya Path (the wide avenue to the President’s House) past Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament. These two are seen from the road, as security does not allow stops close to them. You spend about 30 minutes here.

9:45 AM — Red Fort

Emperor Shah Jahan built this huge red sandstone fort in the 1600s as his palace. You walk through the covered market inside the gate, then see the halls where he met his people and his court. Plan about 1 hour inside.

11:00 AM — Jama Masjid

This is one of India’s largest mosques, also built by Shah Jahan. You climb wide steps to a vast open courtyard with views over Old Delhi. Shoes stay at the entrance, and robes are given at the gate if your arms or legs are uncovered. You spend about 30 minutes here.

11:30 AM — Chandni Chowk on Foot or by Cycle-Rickshaw

Chandni Chowk is crowded, noisy, and full of life: spice sellers, sweet shops, and lanes too narrow for cars. Walk, or take a cycle-rickshaw ride and pay the rider on the spot. Cars are not allowed on the main street during the day, so your driver drops you nearby and meets you at a set point. Allow about 45 minutes.

12:30 PM — Raj Ghat

Raj Ghat is a calm green park around a plain black marble platform. It marks the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated in 1948. You remove your shoes before walking up to the memorial. You spend about 30 minutes here.

1:15 PM — Lunch Break

You choose where to eat, from a local Indian restaurant to a familiar café. If you want ideas, your driver can suggest a few places near the route. This is also a good restroom stop. Lunch takes about 45 minutes.

2:15 PM — Humayun’s Tomb

This garden tomb was built in the 1560s for the Mughal emperor Humayun. Its red sandstone walls, white marble dome, and water channels were a model for the Taj Mahal, built about 80 years later. Plan about 1 hour to walk the gardens.

3:30 PM — Lotus Temple

This Baha’i house of worship is shaped like a white lotus flower, and people of all faiths are welcome. You leave your shoes outside, and the prayer hall is silent, with no photos inside. You spend about 45 minutes here, including a short line.

3:30 PM (Mondays) — Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

Lotus Temple is closed on Mondays, so you visit this gurudwara (a Sikh place of worship) instead. It has a golden dome, a large holy pool, and a community kitchen that serves free meals to everyone. Cover your head (scarves are given) and remove your shoes. Plan about 45 minutes. On Mondays, your driver may change the afternoon order to suit the route.

4:30 PM — Qutub Minar

Qutub Minar is a 73-meter (240-foot) stone tower, started around 1200, with bands of carved writing. Around it are old ruins and an iron pillar that has not rusted in about 1,600 years. Plan about 1 hour. From November to January, it gets dark around 5:30 PM, so your driver may move this stop earlier.

About 6:00–6:30 PM — Drop-off

Your driver takes you back to your hotel, or to the airport if you fly out tonight. From outer NCR areas, allow extra time for evening traffic.

Times can change with traffic, weather, and lines at the gate.

Important to Know Before Your Delhi Tour

A few closed days and dress rules can change your plan. Read these before you book, so nothing surprises you on the day.

  • Closed days: Lotus Temple is closed every Monday, so we visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib instead. Red Fort now opens on Mondays too, but it closes each year from about mid-July to August 15 to prepare for Independence Day. On those dates, you see it from outside.
  • Prayer times: Jama Masjid closes to visitors during prayers, including around midday. On Fridays, midday prayers draw big crowds, so your driver may move this stop.
  • Dress code: Cover your shoulders and knees at Jama Masjid, Lotus Temple, and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. At the gurudwara, everyone also covers their head.
  • ID: Carry your passport. Ticket counters and security checks may ask to see it.
  • Items not allowed: Security at the main monuments may not allow large bags, food, sharp items, or drones. Leave them in the car, which stays with your driver all day.
  • Winter smog: From November to January, Delhi’s air can be poor and mornings can be foggy. If you have asthma or breathing problems, bring your medicine and a good face mask.

Customize Your Day

The car is yours for the day, so the plan can bend to fit you. These are the changes travelers ask for most.

  • Add a stop, if time allows: Agrasen ki Baoli (an old stepwell, a deep well with stone steps down to the water), Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, or Laxmi Narayan Temple can fit in on a day with short lines. Tell your driver in the morning so the route can include it.
  • End at the airport: Flying out late tonight? Check out in the morning, keep your bags in the car, and finish the tour at the airport.
  • Add an English-speaking guide: A guide joins you at the monuments and explains the history. Ask us on WhatsApp for the guide price.
  • Change the start time: In the hot months, an earlier start gives you more time outdoors before the midday heat. Tell us your preferred time when you book.
  • Have another free day? Our Same Day Agra Tour from Delhi takes you to the Taj Mahal and back in one long day.

Who This Tour Is For

This old and new Delhi tour suits most travelers, because the drives are short and you can rest in the car between stops. Here is how it fits different groups.

  • First-time visitors: You see Delhi’s best-known places in one day without planning routes or bargaining with taxi drivers.
  • Families: The cool car between stops helps everyone recharge. Small children may tire of the walking by mid-afternoon, so plan breaks and skip a stop if needed.
  • Couples and solo travelers: The car is private, your driver waits at every stop, and you never share with strangers. That makes it a simple, private choice for solo women travelers too.
  • Older travelers: Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, and Qutub Minar involve a fair amount of walking, and Jama Masjid has steep steps. You can skip any part and wait in the car.
  • Short-stay visitors: With one free day before a night flight, you can see the city and finish at the airport.

Best Time for an Old and New Delhi Tour

Delhi has hot summers, a rainy monsoon, and cool winters. The season changes how comfortable the walking feels, so here is what to expect.

  • October to March (best months): Days are mild, about 20–30°C (68–86°F), which is ideal for walking around monuments. December and January mornings can drop to about 5–8°C (41–46°F), so bring a warm layer.
  • November to January (smog and fog): Air quality is at its worst in these months, and thick morning fog can slow traffic. If you have breathing problems, check the air quality on your phone the night before. In late January, roads near India Gate may close for Republic Day parade practice, so we may change the order.
  • April to June (very hot): Afternoons often reach 40–45°C (104–113°F). Start earlier, carry water, and take a longer indoor lunch.
  • July to September (monsoon): Expect about 30–35°C (86–95°F), high humidity, and short, heavy rain. Flooded roads can slow the drives between stops.
  • Best time of day: The 8:30 AM start reaches India Gate while roads are quieter, and Qutub Minar looks best in late-afternoon light. The trade-off is that Old Delhi is busiest around midday, so expect crowds in Chandni Chowk.

How Long Is the Drive from Delhi to Agra?

The drive from Delhi to Agra takes about 3.5 hours each way by car on the Yamuna Expressway. It covers about 230–240 km (143–149 miles) and can take longer with Delhi traffic or winter fog. You can also go by train or bus, so here is how the three compare.

OptionTime each wayComfortWho it suits
Private carAbout 3.5 hours, door to doorYour own AC car; stops when you need themFamilies, groups, older travelers, and anyone who wants all five Agra stops in one day
TrainAbout 2 hours on a fast train, plus travel to and from the stationsComfortable seats; fixed times; tickets can sell outTravelers who are fine with busy stations and will arrange a car in Agra
BusAbout 4 – 5 hoursAC buses run on this route; fixed stops and timesBudget travelers with flexible plans who will arrange transport in Agra

Trains are faster on the rails, and buses cost less. For a same-day round trip, a private car is simply easier. It takes you from your door to five places spread across Agra and back again, with no transfers or timetables to watch.

Local Tips That Make the Day Easier

Small things trip up first-time visitors in Delhi. These tips help the day run smoothly.

  • Wear slip-on shoes and carry socks: You take your shoes off at Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat, Lotus Temple, and the gurudwara. Socks protect your feet from hot stone on sunny days.
  • Keep your bag in front in Chandni Chowk: The lanes are packed with people. Wear your bag across your front and keep your phone in a zipped pocket.
  • Check with your driver if someone says a place is closed: Near Red Fort and Chandni Chowk, strangers sometimes say a monument is shut and offer to take you elsewhere. Your driver knows the real timings, so ask before you go anywhere.
  • Carry small notes: Keep some ₹10, ₹20, and ₹50 notes for rickshaws, shoe stands, and restrooms. Agree on the rickshaw fare before you sit down.
  • Agree on a meeting point at each stop: Cars often park a short walk from the gate. Save your driver’s WhatsApp number so you can share your location if you can’t find the car.
  • Use the monument restrooms: Restrooms at ticketed places like Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar are usually cleaner than those near the markets.
  • You decide about shopping: Your driver will not take you to any shop unless you ask. If you want to shop, you choose where.

Why Book with Taj Mahal Day Trip

We keep things simple: one private car, a clear price, and no pressure. Here is what that means for you.

  • Private car only: You never share the car or join a group.
  • No advance payment: You pay on the day, and you can cancel at any time.
  • No forced shopping: We never take you to a shop unless you ask.
  • Clear prices per car: Fuel, tolls, parking, and taxes are all in the price you see.
  • Pickup anywhere in Delhi NCR: Hotel, home, railway station, or airport, at no extra cost.
  • English-speaking guide on request: Add a guide if you want the history behind each place.
