What to Expect on a Same Day Agra Tour from Delhi

This same day Agra tour from Delhi takes you to the Taj Mahal and back in one day. You travel in a private car with your own driver. You also visit Agra Fort, Sikandra (Akbar’s Tomb), Itmad-ud-Daulah (also called the “Baby Taj”), and Mehtab Bagh (a garden across the river with a view of the Taj Mahal). All five places are part of the plan, not extras.

Here is the honest part: this is a long day. Your driver picks you up at about 6:00 AM. You are back at your hotel by about 9:30–10:00 PM. That is about 15.5–16 hours from pickup to drop-off, with about 7 hours of driving in total.

Agra Tour Package from Delhi: Prices and Options

You can book just the car and driver, or a package that adds a guide, entry tickets, and lunch. Car prices are per car, for your whole group. Package prices are per person.

Car Only (Price per Car)

Car Seats Price per Car
Sedan (Dzire / Etios) 1–3 ₹6,000 per car
SUV (Ertiga) 4–5 ₹7,000 per car
Innova Crysta (a larger, more comfortable SUV) 4–6 ₹11,000 per car
Tempo Traveller (a minibus for bigger groups) 7–12 ₹14,000 per car

Packages (Price per Person)

Package Price per Person What Is Included
Car + Guide ₹6,500 per person Private car and driver, plus an English-speaking guide in Agra.
Car + Guide + Entry Tickets ₹6,800 per person Everything in Car + Guide, plus monument entry tickets.
Car + Guide + Entry Tickets + Lunch ₹7,800 per person Everything above, plus lunch at a 3-star hotel (the hotel’s set menu).

Which Option Should You Choose?

  • Choose car only if you are happy to buy tickets at each monument and explore at your own pace. One price covers the whole car, so it often costs less for groups. You can still add a guide on request.
  • Choose a package if you want everything arranged before you arrive. Your guide explains the history, tickets are handled for you, and you know the full cost per person in advance.

What can change the price: the number of people (this decides the car), extra stops you add, or very busy dates such as Christmas and New Year. We confirm your final price on WhatsApp before the trip.

No advance payment, and you can cancel at any time. You pay on the day by cash, card, or UPI (India’s instant phone payment system).

What's Included and What's Not

Your price covers the car, the driver, and all road costs for the whole day. The lists below show what is covered and what you pay for yourself. Monument entry tickets are included only in the two ticket packages.

  • Private AC car with driver: The car is for your group only, from pickup until drop-off.
  • Fuel, toll tax, state taxes, and parking: Toll tax is a road fee paid at highway booths. It is already in your price, so you never pay it on the day.
  • Pickup and drop-off: At your hotel, home, railway station, or the airport, anywhere in Delhi NCR.
  • Breakfast and restroom stops: Your driver stops on the expressway in both directions. The breakfast itself is extra.
  • Guide, tickets, or lunch: Included only when you book the matching package.
  • Monument entry tickets (car only, and Car + Guide): You buy a ticket at each monument. Foreign visitors pay a higher fee than Indian visitors, and the Taj Mahal’s main tomb has a small extra fee. Sikandra, Itmad-ud-Daulah, and Mehtab Bagh each have their own ticket.
  • Meals: You pay for breakfast, and for lunch unless you book the lunch package.
  • Guide for car-only bookings: Available on request for an extra charge. Ask us on WhatsApp for the guide price.
  • Camera or video fees: Any extra fee a monument charges for cameras or video.
  • Tips: Tipping your driver and guide is up to you.
  • Personal expenses: Shopping, snacks, drinks, and anything else you buy for yourself.

Itinerary for Your Taj Mahal Day Trip from Delhi

The route is planned so you never go back and forth across Agra. You see the Taj Mahal first, then move west to Agra Fort and Sikandra. You finish on the other side of the Yamuna River, close to the expressway home.

6:00 AM — Pickup from Your Hotel

Your driver meets you at your hotel, home, or the airport. Early morning roads are quiet, so you leave Delhi quickly. Keep your passport, water, and a light jacket (in winter) with you.

About 7:30 AM — Breakfast and Restroom Stop

After about 1.5 hours, your driver stops at a rest area on the Yamuna Expressway. You get about 30 minutes for breakfast and the restroom. Breakfast is your choice, and you pay for it yourself.

About 9:45 AM — Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is the white marble tomb that Emperor Shah Jahan built for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, in the 1600s. Cars cannot drive up to the gate, so the last part is by electric shuttle or a short walk. Inside, you pass the main gate, walk along the long garden pool, and go up to the main tomb. You spend about 2.5 hours here, including security and the walk in and out.

12:30 PM — Agra Fort

Agra Fort is a huge red sandstone fort where Mughal emperors lived and ruled. Inside are marble palaces, courtyards, and grand halls. From its terraces, you can see the Taj Mahal down the river, the same view Shah Jahan had in his last years here. You spend about 1.5 hours here.

2:00 PM — Lunch Break

You stop for lunch for about 45 minutes. With the lunch package, you eat at a 3-star hotel from its set menu. Otherwise, you choose the restaurant, and your driver can suggest a few nearby.

3:15 PM — Sikandra (Akbar’s Tomb)

Sikandra is the tomb of Emperor Akbar, the grandfather of Shah Jahan. It has a grand gateway, red sandstone halls, and a large, quiet garden. You may see deer grazing on the lawns. You spend about 45 minutes here.

4:30 PM — Itmad-ud-Daulah (Baby Taj)

This small marble tomb was built before the Taj Mahal, and many see it as an early model for it. Look closely at the walls: they are covered in fine stone inlay of flowers and patterns. It is usually calm and less crowded. You spend about 30–40 minutes here.

About 5:10 PM — Mehtab Bagh

Mehtab Bagh sits right across the Yamuna River from the Taj Mahal. From here, you see the back of the Taj in the evening light, away from the big crowds. You stay until the garden closes at sunset. In winter (November to January), sunset is around 5:30 PM, so this visit is short. In summer, sunset is around 7:00 PM, so you can leave earlier, or stay later and get home later.

About 5:45–6:00 PM — Drive Back to Delhi

The drive home takes about 3.5–4 hours on the expressway. Your driver makes a restroom stop on the way. This is a good time to rest.

About 9:30–10:00 PM — Drop-off at Your Hotel

Your driver drops you at your hotel, home, railway station, or the airport. Flying out the same night? Tell us your flight time when you book, so we can plan the day around it.

Times can change with traffic, weather, and lines at the gate.

Important to Know Before You Go

A few rules and seasons can change your day. Please read these points before you book.

  • Closed on Fridays: The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday, so we do not run this tour on Fridays. Please pick any day except Friday.
  • Bring your passport: Foreign visitors should carry their passport. Ticket staff may ask for it to check which entry fee applies. Indian visitors should carry a government photo ID.
  • Dress with respect: The Taj Mahal grounds include a working mosque. Clothes that cover your shoulders and knees are respectful and also protect you from the sun. To enter the main tomb, you take off your shoes or wear shoe covers.
  • Items not allowed at the Taj Mahal: Drones, tripods, large bags, food, and tobacco are not allowed inside. Leave them in the car while you visit.
  • Winter fog: In December and January, heavy fog can cover the Yamuna Expressway in the early morning. Your driver slows down for safety, so the drive can take longer.

Customize Your Day

This is your private car, so the day can change to fit you. Here are a few ways to make it your own.

  • Add a guide or lunch: For car-only bookings, an English-speaking guide can meet you in Agra for an extra charge. Ask us on WhatsApp for the guide price, or pick the lunch package for lunch at a 3-star hotel.
  • Choose your pickup time: Pickup is flexible, but we suggest 6:00 AM. A later start means less time at each place and a later drop-off.
  • Add Fatehpur Sikri: Fatehpur Sikri is a red sandstone city built by Emperor Akbar, west of Agra. To see it, book our Agra Fatehpur Sikri Day Tour from Delhi instead.
  • Add Krishna temples: Our Agra Mathura Vrindavan Day Tour pairs the Taj Mahal with temples in Mathura and Vrindavan, the towns linked to Lord Krishna.
  • See the Taj Mahal at sunrise or sunset: Our Taj Mahal Sunrise Tour and Taj Mahal Sunset Tour plan the whole day around the light on the Taj.

Who This Tour Is For

This tour works well for most travelers, but it is a long day. Here is an honest look at who will enjoy it most, and who should think twice.

  • Short-stay visitors: If you have only one free day in Delhi, a one day Agra tour from Delhi by car is the simplest way to see the Taj Mahal without a hotel night.
  • Couples and solo travelers: You share the car with no one else, and the same driver stays with you all day. This includes solo women travelers who prefer a private car to a shared bus.
  • Families with older children: Older children usually do well, with breaks and naps in the car. For small children, a day of about 16 hours can be too tiring.
  • Older travelers: The car is comfortable, but the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort mean a lot of walking, some on uneven stone. Go to bed early the night before, and tell your driver if you want to skip a stop and rest.
  • Groups of 7 to 12: A Tempo Traveller keeps everyone together in one vehicle, at one price per car.

Best Time for a Delhi to Agra Day Trip by Car

The best months are October to March, when days in Agra are dry and comfortable. Every season works, but each one changes the day a little. Here is what to expect.

  • October, November, February, and March (best): Days are warm and pleasant, around 25–33°C (77–91°F). Clear skies are good for photos. These are busy months, so expect more people at the Taj Mahal.
  • December and January (cool, with fog): Days are mild, around 20–24°C (68–75°F), but early mornings can drop to 5–8°C (41–46°F). Fog can slow the morning drive and hide the Taj Mahal for a few hours. Sunset is around 5:30 PM, so the Mehtab Bagh visit is short. Bring a warm jacket.
  • April to June (very hot): Afternoons often reach 40°C (104°F) or more, and the marble at the Taj Mahal gets hot underfoot. Carry water, a hat, and sunscreen. Sunset is around 7:00 PM, so you can stay longer at Mehtab Bagh if you like.
  • July to September (monsoon): Expect heat, humidity, and sudden rain, around 30–35°C (86–95°F). Gardens are green, and crowds are smaller. Heavy rain can slow the drive.
  • Best time of day: You reach the Taj Mahal at about 9:45 AM. It is not the quietest hour (sunrise is quieter), but it lets you see five places in one day without a middle-of-the-night start.

How Long Is the Drive from Delhi to Agra?

The drive from Delhi to Agra takes about 3.5 hours each way by car on the Yamuna Expressway. It covers about 230–240 km (143–149 miles) and can take longer with Delhi traffic or winter fog. You can also go by train or bus, so here is how the three compare.

OptionTime Each WayComfortWho It Suits
Private CarAbout 3.5 hours, door to doorYour own AC car; stops when you need them.Families, groups, older travelers, and anyone who wants all five Agra stops in one day.
TrainAbout 2 hours on a fast train, plus travel to and from the stations.Comfortable seats; fixed times; tickets can sell out.Travelers who are fine with busy stations and will arrange a car in Agra.
BusAbout 4–5 hoursAC buses run on this route; fixed stops and times.Budget travelers with flexible plans who will arrange transport in Agra.

Trains are faster on the rails, and buses cost less. For a same-day round trip, a private car is simply easier. It takes you from your door to five places spread across Agra and back again, with no transfers or timetables to watch.

Local Tips for a Smoother Day

Small things make a long day much easier. These tips help you save time and energy in Agra.

  • Sleep early the night before: Pickup is around 6:00 AM, and you get back around 10:00 PM. A good night’s sleep makes the whole day easier.
  • Save your driver’s number and the car number: Cars park away from the monument gates, and your driver waits in the parking area while you visit. Save the driver’s number on WhatsApp and take a photo of the number plate, so you find each other quickly.
  • Say a polite “no” to touts: Touts are people who sell services on the street. Near the Taj Mahal parking and gates, some may offer to guide you, sell you tickets, or take you to a shop. A friendly “No, thank you” is enough, and you buy tickets only at the official ticket windows.
  • No shop stops unless you ask: We never take you to a shop unless you ask. If you want marble or souvenirs, you choose where to buy, and your driver takes you there.
  • Carry small cash: Keep some ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, and ₹100 notes for snacks, tips, and small fees. Small stalls may not take cards or have change for big notes.
  • Wear slip-on shoes and socks: At the main tomb, you take your shoes off or put shoe covers on. In summer, socks also protect your feet from hot marble.
  • Pack light: Bring a small bag with your passport, phone, water, and sunscreen. Large bags are not allowed inside the Taj Mahal, so leave the rest in the car.

FAQ: About Your Agra Day Trip

Here are straight answers to common questions about this tour. If yours is not here, send us a message on WhatsApp.

Is the Taj Mahal open on Fridays?

No. The Taj Mahal is closed every Friday, so we do not run this tour on Fridays. Please pick any other day of the week. If your dates are tight, plan your Agra day first and keep Friday for something else in Delhi.

How long is the same day Agra tour from Delhi?

The day is about 15.5 to 16 hours from pickup to drop-off. Your driver picks you up at about 6:00 AM, and you are back by about 9:30 to 10:00 PM. About 7 hours of that is driving, with breakfast, lunch, and restroom stops along the way.

How much does the tour cost, and is it per car or per person?

Car-only prices are per car, starting at ₹6,000 for a sedan that seats up to 3 people. Package prices are per person: ₹6,500 with a guide, ₹6,800 with a guide and entry tickets, and ₹7,800 with a guide, tickets, and lunch. Fuel, tolls, and parking are always included.

Are Taj Mahal entry tickets included?

Entry tickets are included only in the Car + Guide + Entry Tickets package and the package that also adds lunch. With car only, or Car + Guide, you buy a ticket at each monument. Foreign visitors pay a higher fee than Indian visitors, and the Taj Mahal’s main tomb has a small extra fee.

Do I need to pay in advance, and can I cancel?

No advance payment is needed, and you can cancel at any time. Because you pay nothing before the trip, you lose nothing if your plans change. On the day, you can pay by cash, card, or UPI. We confirm your car, price, and pickup time on WhatsApp before you travel.

Will the driver take me to shops?

No. We never take you to a shop unless you ask. Your driver will not make surprise stops at marble, carpet, or jewelry shops. If you want souvenirs, tell your driver, and you choose where to go. Shopping is always your decision, never part of the plan.

Does the guide travel with us from Delhi?

No. In the guide packages, your English-speaking guide meets you in Agra and stays with you at the monuments. Your driver handles the drive from Delhi and back. For car-only bookings, you can add a guide in Agra for an extra charge. Ask us on WhatsApp for the guide price.

Is this day too tiring for children or older travelers?

It can be. A day of about 16 hours is long for small children, and the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort involve a lot of walking. Older children and fit older travelers usually manage well. Sleep early the night before, rest in the car, and skip a stop if you need to.
